Denne boken tar for seg innholdsbehandlingssystemet (IBS) Joomla, version 1.5 og nyere. Den inneholder informasjon om hvordan Joomla installeres, om grunnkonseptene i Joomla som system, hvordan man behandler layout og oppsett, hvordan man utvikler tredjepartsutvidelser og mye mer.

Den er lisensiert under GNU Free Documentation License.

Hvem er boken skrevet for?

Boken er først og fremst lagd for de som skal sette opp og lage en nettside ved bruk av Joomla, ved å ta for seg Joomlas konsepter fra et teknisk perspektiv. Kapitlene forklarer hvordan man skal gå frem for å sette opp en Joomla-drevet nettside, og hvordan denne skal administreres og settes opp for å virke som ønskelig. Denne delen av boken antar at man har en grunnleggende forståelse for kode og programmering, og har litt erfaring i å lage nettsider. Begreper som FTP, HTML og CSS bør være kjent.

Men den har også et eget kapittel for de som kun er brukere av Joomla, og som har fått en tekniker til å sette opp Joomla for seg. Her forklares ting fra et ikke-teknisk perspektiv, og det forventes ikke at man har innsikt i den tekniske delen av hvordan en nettside virker.

Bokens struktur

Kapitteloppdelingen er lagt opp slik at en nybegynner skal kunne lese boken fra første kapittel, og arbeide seg gjennom boken i kapitlenes rekkefølge. Den starter med en introduksjon til Joomla som konsept. Her forklares det hva Joomla er og hva Joomla kan brukes til. Den fortsetter så med en guide til installasjon og oppsett av Joomla på en webserver. Deretter går boken dypere inn i den tekniske verden, og forklarer hvordan man konfigurerer og lager layouts, utvider Joomla med tillegsfunksjonalitet m.m.

Kapitlene henger ikke sammen, retorisk sett, så dersom man kan det grunnleggende, kan man godt hoppe over kapitler og seksjoner uten at det forstyrrer flyten i boken.

Installasjon

1.5-versjonen av Joomla ble lansert i januar 2008. Denne versjonen skilte seg så vesentlig fra de foregående versjonene at en vanlig oppgradering ikke var mulig. Eksisterende websider med 1.0.x-versjoner måtte derfor migrere innholdet over på den nye plattformen. Dette medførte at ny og gammel versjon levde side om side og fortsatt eksisterer mange installasjoner på 1.0-plattformen.

Ved lanseringen av 1.5-versjonen var bare et fåtall utvidelser tilpasset den nye utgaven, et problem som ble delvis løst ved hjelp av en egen "Legacy"-plugin i den nye versjonen. Fortsatt må denne brukes for å benytte enkelte utvidelser.

For å lage websider med Joomla, må du kjøpe plass på et webhotell som støtter PHP og MySQL. De fleste store Webhoteller tilbyr dette, men hos enkelte må det bestilles separat. Før installasjon må du ha følgende opplysninger:

• FTP-adresse til websidenes rot-mappe
• Brukernavn og passord for FTP-pålogging

• Navn på database
• Adresse (host) til database (ofte localhost)
• Brukernavn og passord for database

Du trenger også et FTP-program for å laste opp alle installasjonsfilene til webserver. Se Wikipedias oversikt over FTP-klienter

Testing på egen PC uten webhotell Fordi Joomla krever tilgang til en database der innholdet genereres dynamisk av programmeringsspråket PHP, er det ingen HTML-filer som kan legges på egen maskin for teste systemet lokalt. Men det finnes programmer som lar deg kjøre en lokal webserver (med nødvendige tillegg) som gjør deg helt uavhengig av webhotell. Du finner en oversikt over disse på Joomlas utvidelses-sider. Dette er programmer som skal lastes ned til egen PC, installeres og kjøres. Det finnes enkelte gratisprogrammer, men de fleste krever betaling (dog ikke avskrekkende mye). Dersom du skal utvikle et nettsted lokalt på din egen maskin, for deretter å overføre det til en webadresse senere, lar det seg gjøre ved å installere en backup-løsning på den lokale Jooomla-installasjonen, og kjøre en restore av denne på webserveren. 1. Last ned ønsket versjon fra Joomla eller norsk versjon fra Foreningen Joomla i Norge (fortrinnsvis full pakke av nyeste versjon)
2. Pakk ut arkiv (zip) filen til en midlertidig mappe på din maskin
3. Overfør filene til din rotkatalog på webhotellet med en FTP-klient
4. Skriv inn adressen til ditt nettsted i nettleseren, og følg installasjonsveiledningen nøye

Merknader

• Installasjonsveiviseren lar deg installere eksempeldata - en nyttig funksjon for førstegangs- og mellomerfarne brukere. Eksempeldataene kan fjernes senere.
• Installasjonsveiviseren spør om du vil bruke FTP-tilkobling og ber om brukernavn og passord. Dette er ikke nødvendig, men sørger for at alle filer på serveren har riktig "eier".
• Veiviseren ber om passord for admin-kontoen: sørg for å notere dette

Når installasjonen er ferdig må du manuelt slette installasjonsmappen i FTP-klienten før du kan ta systemet i bruk.

Etter at du har slettet installasjonsmappen er websidene operative på adressen du har fått fra webhotell-leverandøren (f. eks. www.mittdomene.no). For å styre innholdet på sidene, skriver du /administrator til slutt i nettadressen (www.mittdomene.no/administrator). Du kommer da til innloggingsvinduet. Det ble under installasjonen opprettet brukernavnet admin, og du valgte selv passord.

Etter innlogging kommer du inn i Joomlas kontrollpanel, som lar deg administrere nettstedet.
